Brazilians Love Elvis

Yesterday I saw a Brazilian impersonate Elvis Presley. I went with my host family to a churrascaria, or in American terms a barbecue. We ate chicken hearts, sausage, rice, pasta…all kinds of awesome food! I had never tried a chicken heart before, and I only ate one to be polite. It didn’t taste as weird as you would imagine. (Side note: Neither did the octopus tentacles I had for dinner the night before. Trying all sorts of different food here.) The Elvis impersonator had me cracking up. His singing voice was actually pretty darn good, I was impressed. Although his accent definitely came out when he would speak, when he sang he sounded just like Elvis. Brazilians love Elvis. They knew more of his songs than I did. The impersonator would go out into the crowd and get party goers to sing and sure enough, my host mom pointed me out as an American and he had me sing a few songs with him. It was hilarious and a lot of fun!
