Word of the Day: Saudade, the love that remains.

IMG_2910editsaudade

Saudade is a word that the Brazilians use to describe nostalgia. But it’s deeper than simply missing someone or something. It’s accompanied by the knowledge that the someone or something that is lost will never return. It’s a bit of a sad word, I know, but I think it beautifully describes the unspoken feeling that comes when someone passes away, you lose a lover, a friendship ends, a pet dies, etc. It describes the feeling that comes to you after tragedy, something that is known no matter what culture you live in. So whether you are dealing with the loss of someone you love, missing your family, losing your job, or remembering your cat or dog or even your pet goldfish, just know that pain, like kindness, is universal. You are not alone.
